Creating our experiment

In this photo we are preparing to shoot our video. we decided to have our camera rotating with all the lights facing outwards, this gave a dynamic feel and made the shot seem like it had a story. also this method of filming created gaps between each of us so that we could edit in other shots to fill the gaps, this allowed for a smooth flowing video with many different shots and movements.

this is our completed experimental video, i think that it worked very well with good transitions a variety of different shots and movements, and good lighting. i think that this could have been made better if it had a story and also we could of used many more shot sizes because most of ours are just close ups.

lighting and camera setup

in this photo we are looking at changing some of the settings on the camera such as exposure and shutter speed and seeing if someone else could identify what was wrong and change it. we could tell what had been changed on the camera by seeing how dark it was and changing the exposure or gain.

this is a photo of us applying some gels to the lights to give it a different look and to also soften the light. this effect didn't look too good however because we put the gel on the strongest light which made the room too red and overpowering. when we tried this gel on the other lights it worked well and gave the shot a more intense feel.

this picture has been taken with full studio lights including gels and backlights. we experimented with different shutter speeds and exposures to achieve a shot that we thought looked the best.one of the things that we could have changed in this picture is toned down the power of the light on the left, or used make-up to cancel the glare.

this is what the shot looked like prior to us doing anything to it you can obviously tell that there is a curtain behind it which is one of the main features of the shot that we wanted to remove. we did this by adjusting the position of the lights and changing the barn doors.

in this photo we are comparing the two variants of camera to see which one could be more useful in different scenarios. we found that even though the cannon SLR had fewer options it still looked better that the sony.

here is another of us looking at the cannon SLR and learning its features and how it is different to the sony, for example the cannon has less buttons so it is more fiddly to use and change stuff that is quite simple on the sony.
