A digipak is different to a jewel case in that it is made from cardboards and papers instead of plastic. this allows them to be more flexible and less likely to break or shatter. another way that digipaks are better than jewel cases is that due to their cardboard design they are cheaper to manufacture and mass produce, also because they can fold out into larger spaces than jewel cases they allow areas for the bands to personally design and add their own flair.
another thing that is good about them are that they are easier to ship which suits the current idea that most CDs are bought online. one downside to this cardboard approach is that they are more difficult to replace and they are less resistant to everyday wear and tear.
Some genres of music chose not to use digipak due to them not fitting their style, these tend to include heavy metal bands and also classical.
