For my research i started by looking at arctic monkeys website using google, from this i managed to get a feel of what style i wanted to make my music video and ancillary products. I also used google to find suitable software for making digipaks and websites.
I used Google to research the arctic monkeys and to look at similar bands websites and music videos. I looked on youtube and on facebook/twitter to look at the bands songs and how they liked to style their products.
I mainly used Youtube to view the bands music videos and from here i analysed them to find out how i wanted to style my music video, i looked at songs such as Brianstorm, Teddy picker, Fire,
thepretender. The main feature that i decided that i liked out of these was the emphasis on the band from the pretender and the fast editing style with quick cuts and filters from Brianstorm, in my music video i tried to include these aspects by using head burns and lots of transitions.
One other technique that i used was silhouettes, these were mad by shining a light against a white canvas. this was inspired by the Apple Ipod adverts and i felt like they gave the shots a nice clean feel which contrasts well with the arctic monkeys grungy/indie feel. I used these silhouette shots on my website and my digipak as well to create a tie between them and help to create a kind of brand recognition.
To create my digipak i used photoshop. i used this because it was the programme that i felt most comfortable with and had the most experience with. I used the template that i downloaded earlier as the base for my digipak and used the silhouettes as the backgrounds for some of the panels. I used photoshop to rotate the images and text and also to create a logo for my production company.
for the filming of my music video i used two different cameras, one was a a canon 550D DSLR which i used to film the outdoor shots. I used this camera because i had originally decided to over-crank these scenes however due to time constraints and the difficulty of singing in time to a sped up song proved too difficult and so we therefore scrapped this idea. The other camera that was used for every other shot was 2 Sony HVR-Z5Es, one was used for the static shots whilst the other we walked around the stage to get close ups and mobile shots of the band.
For the editing of the video i used final cut pro, i chose to use this because it is the editing software that i am the most comfortable with and i feel that it very good at doing what it does. i used many transitions mainly the additive dissolve.
And the most obvious piece of technology that i used is blogger, this allows me to keep all of my work in one place where i can easily control and display it.
