Textual analysis #2 Teddy picker: Arctic Monkeys

This music video has an interesting start as it shows the band preparing for the upcoming song, this strange opening throws the viewer off guard and makes them wonder what is going on. Also this choice also allows you to connect with the band and gives the video a more relaxed and casual feel because we can relate to the scenario.

The location of this video changes over the course of the song, it starts in a studio which gives a professional and clean feel, it also plays to the conventions of most bands of this genre. later on the location changes to the band walking outside, this gives us the feel that they are singing about something, but at the same time it also makes the scene look more casual and less professional. the outfits that the band are wearing are typical casual clothing for young men. this tells us that they do not want to be seen as rich or posh and just want to be normal, once again this plays to the conventions of bands of this genre as this is seen as a working mans music choice.

The camera shots and movements in this video are very fast and jerky with the camera occasionally shaking and going out of focus, this is being used to create a handmade feel and make the video look less professional which like before is one of the convention of this genre
